HOUSING FIRST APARTMENTS OPEN THEIR DOORS FOR AGED-OUT FOSTER YOUTH

PANDO ASPEN GROVE IS THE FIRST MODULAR MULTIFAMILY DEVELOPMENT IN INDIANA

Indianapolis, IN — TWG, a real estate development company specializing in commercial, market rate, affordable and senior housing developments, proudly announces the grand opening of Pando Aspen Grove of Community Heights (Pando) on Wednesday, July 28. Located at 5226 East 16th St., Pando is a permanent supportive housing complex serving young adults who were previously part of Indiana’s child welfare and fostering system.

Owned and co-developed by the Foundation of Lutheran Child & Family Services (LCFS), Pando is a joint project of stakeholders and the Indiana Housing Authority, directing their intentions toward the same goal: to provide housing and social, economic and behavioral services for young people who are aging out of the foster care system and at risk of homelessness. As the first modular multifamily development in Indiana, Pando contains 30 one-bedroom units in a three-story building and was financed with $8.4 million in low-income housing tax credits and $800,000 from the Housing Trust Fund Grant from IHCDA.

THE YOUNG ADULTS IN OUR FOSTER SYSTEM DESERVE THE SAFETY OF SHELTER, THE ACCESS TO AMPLE RESOURCES AND THE SECURITY OF KNOWING AT THE END OF THE DAY, THEY HAVE A PLACE TO CALL HOME,” SAID JOHN SULLIVAN, VICE PRESIDENT OF TAX CREDIT DEVELOPMENT AT TWG. “IT’S BEEN AN HONOR TO PARTNER WITH LUTHERAN CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES TO BRING THIS PROJECT TO FRUITION. WE ARE THANKFUL FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP, GUIDANCE AND COMPASSION IN MAKING PANDO ASPEN GROVE A NEW HOME FOR OUR HOOSIER YOUTH.

Pando residents will have access to an on-site food pantry and supportive services such as educational and employment resources, healthcare and legal aid, in addition to networking with others in the community to build their “social capital.” Recreational activities, nutrition and cooking classes, as well as budgeting and financial management lessons will also be available to residents.
